About Smart Choice
 Smart
Choice® Insurance Centers was born from the
same foundation as the Smart Choice® Agents
Program, a network of over 2,600 independent
property and casualty agents based in High
Point, North Carolina. Smart Choice was
“born” in the mind of its founder and CEO,
Douglas S. Witcher, in 1988. As an
independent agent himself, Doug recognized
the struggles of the system, and was
determined to find a solution that would
make business easier for the independent
agency force.
Smart Choice agencies benefit from the
support of seasoned, dedicated professionals
in the home office and from state and
regional marketing staffs, as well as access
to quality markets, financial services and
other value-added products. Each state is
headed by a Director who is a respected,
successful insurance professional charged
with the responsibility for recruiting,
training and supporting Smart Choice
agencies.
As the Smart Choice Agents Program grew into
a national network force in the industry,
Doug turned his sights to the insurance
consumer base in America. Quality service
and family are the two most important
focuses in Doug’s business practices, and he
dreamed of creating a force of independent
agents who could offer customers superior
service and choice. His idea was to simplify
the insurance process for the customer,
while maintaining the individualized service
that small independent agencies can offer.
He realized that the public deserved
customized insurance plans, and one business
source that could offer customers the
benefit of choice without the haggle of
price shopping. Smart Choice prides itself
and its agencies on being family-oriented
and on providing customers with trustworthy
agents through which they can form lasting
